This book is a helpful support for everyday life with one or more handicapped birds.

The reader learns about the devices, ideas and practical tips for keeping birds with amputations, blindness, loss of feathers, malpositions, inability to fly, consequences of accidents, consequences of tumour disease, paralysis as well as beak defects and beak fractures. Coordination and movement disorders as well as old-age complaints (senior birds) are also taken into account.

Valuable instructions are given for modified housing, free-flight possibilities, occupation and feeding. Protection from injury to the vulnerable bird and the health risks to keep in mind are also covered. Numerous photos show the handicaps and also illustrate solutions.

The guidebook is of help to both private keepers and volunteers/workers in animal welfare who care for impaired birds that are in need.

Dr Sigrid März and Gaby Schulemann-Maier have worked together as a team in the editorial department of WP-Magazin. They have been active bird keepers themselves for many decades with their own handicap cases at home.
